Overview
Important

A prism is a polyhedron with two congruent, parallel polygonal bases and all other faces (lateral faces) are parallelograms. The sides are joined so that each edge of one base is connected to the corresponding edge of the other base.

Important properties

  • The two bases are congruent and parallel polygons.

  • All lateral faces are parallelograms (often rectangles in right prisms).

  • The height (altitude) of the prism is the perpendicular distance between the bases.

  • The volume of a prism is given by V=B×hV = B \times h, where BB is the area of the base and hh is the height.

  • The surface area is the sum of the areas of all faces.
