Trapeziums

A trapezium is a quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides. The parallel sides are called the bases ($a$ and $b$), and the non-parallel sides are called the legs. The distance between the bases is called the height ($h$). The area of a trapezium can be calculated using the formula: $\text{Area} = \frac{1}{2} (a + b) \times h$

Important properties

• Exactly one pair of sides is parallel (the bases).

• The sum of the interior angles is $360^\circ$ (like all quadrilaterals).

• The area formula: $\frac{1}{2} (a + b) \times h$.

• If the legs are equal, the trapezium is called isosceles.
