Construction of sections
Overview
Important
A section of a solid is the shape you get when you cut the solid with a plane. Constructing sections means finding or drawing the intersection of a plane with a solid, such as a cube, prism, or pyramid. This often involves visualizing how the plane passes through the solid and determining the resulting shape.
Important properties
-
The section is always a plane figure (a polygon or a circle, depending on the solid and the plane).
-
The number of sides of the section depends on how the plane cuts the faces of the solid.
-
Sections can be parallel to a face, perpendicular, or at an angle.
-
Special sections (like cross-sections parallel to the base) often have the same shape as the base.
