Round bodies (other)

Round bodies are three-dimensional solids whose surfaces are at least partly curved, and which often have rotational symmetry. The most common round bodies are the sphere, cylinder, and cone, but there are others, such as ellipsoids, tori (doughnut shapes), and paraboloids.

Important properties

• Round bodies have at least one curved surface.

• Many round bodies have rotational symmetry around an axis.

• Some round bodies, like spheres, have the same cross-section in every direction through the center.

• Surface area and volume formulas for round bodies often involve oldsymbol{ ext{pi}} (oldsymbol{ ext{π}}).
