Overview
Important

A (right circular) cylinder is a three-dimensional solid with two parallel, congruent circular bases and a curved lateral surface connecting the bases. The segment joining the centers of the bases is called the axis, and the perpendicular distance between the bases is the height hh. The radius rr is the radius of the bases.

Important properties

  • Surface area: A=2extπr2+2extπrhA = 2 ext{π}r^2 + 2 ext{π}rh (two bases plus lateral surface).

  • Volume: V=extπr2hV = ext{π}r^2h.

  • The axis is perpendicular to the bases in a right cylinder.

  • If the axis is not perpendicular, the cylinder is called oblique.
