Segments between parallel lines
Overview
Important
If two or more parallel lines are intersected by two transversals, the segments they cut on one transversal are proportional to the segments they cut on the other. This is a consequence of similar triangles formed by the intersections.
Important properties
-
Segments between parallel lines cut by two transversals are proportional.
-
If three or more parallel lines are cut by two transversals, the corresponding segments are in the same ratio.
-
This property is often used to prove triangles are similar or to solve for unknown lengths.
