Movements (other)
Overview
Important
Besides translations, rotations, and reflections, there are other movements (isometries) in the plane, such as glide reflections and compositions of basic movements. These also preserve distances and angles.
Important properties
-
A glide reflection is a combination of a reflection over a line and a translation along that line.
-
Every movement (isometry) in the plane is either a translation, a rotation, a reflection, or a glide reflection.
-
Composing two or more movements can result in another movement; for example, two reflections over parallel lines result in a translation.
-
All movements preserve lengths and angles (they are isometries).
