Overview
Important
A progression is a sequence of numbers where each term is generated from the previous term(s) by a fixed rule. The two most important types are:
- Arithmetic progression (AP): Each term is obtained by adding a fixed number (the common difference) to the previous term.
- Geometric progression (GP): Each term is obtained by multiplying the previous term by a fixed number (the common ratio).
Important properties
-
Progressions have formulas to find the nth term and the sum of the first n terms.
-
Recognizing the type of progression helps in solving sequence problems.
-
Progressions can be finite (with a last term) or infinite.
